About

Background

Helen Rice B ARCH FRAIA was born in Melbourne, Australia. After studying Interior Design, she completed a degree in Architecture from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and was honoured as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) in 2009.

Rice has won prestigious industry awards from Royal Australian Institute of Architects and the Urban Development Institute of Australia. Her work has been published in numerous architectural and design press such as Architectural Digest, Vogue Living, Wallpaper* and InDesign as well as consumer titles in Australia and overseas.

Following early career architecture and interior design experience with some of Australia’s most respected architects (Commercial Tenancy at Bates Smart and McCutcheon, and Head of Interior Design and later Company Associate at Daryl Jackson Pty Ltd), Rice started her own architectural practice with strong focus on interior design, offering an all-encompassing service. Helen Rice started her own Melbourne based firm in 1989 (called Helen Rice & Associates, then Rice & Skinner, and Rice Design).

Rice Design’s success over the years has been due to her responsive, hands-on, intuitive design, and perfectionist detail approach to fully realising projects. From corporate fit outs and exhibition design to prominent hospitality, and bespoke residential projects, internationally and across Australia.
